We already talked to Steve in our online chat a few days ago. The conversation was mostly about protectionist tendencies in the US. You'll find a short summary here. He is also a Senior Fellow at New America, and previously served as Executive Vice President.
Mr. Clemons writes frequently on matters of foreign policy, defense, and international economic policy. His work has appeared in many of the major leading op-ed pages, journals, and magazines around the world.

von Joseph Laudien | 06.05.09, 11:24 | Uhr

President Hamid Karzai ordered a probe Wednesday into allegations by local officials that more than 30 civilians were killed this week in a bombing by U.S.-led troops battling militants in western Afghanistan.
Karzai, currently in the United States, will raise the issue of civilian deaths with President Barack Obama, a statement from Karzai's office said. The two presidents were scheduled to hold their first face-to-face meeting later Wednesday.
Civilian deaths have caused increasing friction between the Afghan and U.S. governments, and Karzai has long pleaded with American officials to reduce the number of civilian casualties in their operations. U.S. and NATO officials accuse the Taliban militants of fighting from within civilian homes, thus putting them in danger.

The new transatlantic dialogue
von Joseph Laudien | 18.04.09, 21:46 | Uhr

The transatlantic partnership is an almost non-negotiable cornerstone of the European Union‘s foreign policy. Still this special alliance was under strain only recently. Europe became divided as it was unable to respond to the US National Security Strategy after 9/11. And America seemed to have lost interest in its old allies.

Barack Obama, Americas 44th president was inaugurated in January. Now, after 100 days have passed, expectations are still skyrocking. How will the transatlantic alliance change in the course of his presidency? There are many challenges for sure: A global economic crisis and the unsolved question of how to save Afghanistan from becoming a rogue state again.

The International Online Conference will tackle these kinds of questions and will thereby help you form and sharpen your opinions on transatlanticism. The event will be free of charge and can be accessed by everyone. You can join in by participating in our forums and chatrooms. Feel free to voice your opinion and engage with others, whenever and wherever you like! The conference will be hold in English and German. Simultanous translation will be provided.
